Vivant Alternate Vaporizer

Vivant Alternate Vaporizer – Discontinued

The Vivant Alternate has been discontinued and is no longer available at DopeVapes. Looking for a modern replacement? We recommend the XMAX V4 Pro for its convection-focused heating, removable battery, precise temperature control and versatile session and on-demand modes.

The Vivant Alternate Vaporizer was an innovative portable vaporizer that combined convection-focused hybrid heating, adjustable airflow and a removable 18650 battery in an affordable, compact design.

Developed by California-based Vivant, the Alternate attracted attention for offering features normally associated with more expensive vaporizers, including an OLED display, precise temperature adjustment and a replaceable battery.

Its distinctive design was often compared with the Storz & Bickel Crafty, but the Alternate introduced its own features, including a manual airflow control system and modular top cap.

Designed primarily for dry herbs, the device also supported suitable solid concentrates using an included stainless steel concentrate pad.

Although the Vivant Alternate is now discontinued, it remains an interesting example of an early affordable portable vaporizer with advanced temperature and airflow controls.

Our Recommended Replacement: XMAX V4 Pro

The XMAX V4 Pro is our recommended modern alternative to the discontinued Vivant Alternate.

It retains several features that made the Alternate attractive, including convection-focused heating, digital temperature control and a removable battery.

However, the V4 Pro offers greater flexibility through its dedicated session and on-demand heating modes.

This allows customers to choose between traditional sessions and shorter, individual inhalations.

Why We Recommend the XMAX V4 Pro

• Convection-focused heating for excellent dry herb flavour.
• Session and on-demand operation.
• Precise digital temperature control.
• Removable rechargeable battery.
• Modern USB-C charging.
• Compact, portable construction.
• Straightforward operation and maintenance.
• Excellent value for money.

DopeVapes recommendation: Choose the XMAX V4 Pro if you want a modern dry herb vaporizer with the versatility, replaceable battery and temperature control that made the Vivant Alternate appealing.

The original Alternate also supported concentrates using a dedicated pad. Customers who primarily use wax concentrates should consider a purpose-built concentrate vaporizer instead.

Is the Vivant Alternate Discontinued?

Yes. The Vivant Alternate is a discontinued model and is no longer available at DopeVapes.

Although the manufacturer still maintains support documentation and some accessory listings, the original vaporizer is no longer a practical recommendation for customers buying a new device.

What Replaced the Vivant Alternate?

There is no clearly identified direct successor carrying the Alternate name.

Instead, we recommend the XMAX V4 Pro as a modern alternative for dry herb use.

It offers the same general advantages of precise temperature control and a removable battery, with more flexible heating modes.

Can Existing Owners Still Use the Alternate?

Yes. Existing owners can continue using a functioning device according to Vivant's instructions.

The manufacturer maintains support information, firmware downloads and accessory listings, although individual replacement parts may be difficult to obtain.

Convection-Focused Hybrid Heating

The Vivant Alternate uses a heating system built around hot-air convection and a high-efficiency heat exchanger.

Vivant describes the device as a hybrid vaporizer, combining convection and conduction.

How Does the Heating System Work?

The heating element warms incoming air, which passes through the loaded material.

The chamber and surrounding components also contribute heat during operation.

This combination helps the device maintain its selected temperature throughout a session.

Benefits of Hybrid Heating

Good flavour: Hot airflow supports flavour-focused extraction.

Consistent performance: The heated chamber contributes to stable sessions.

Efficient extraction: Combines airflow and contact heating.

Temperature flexibility: Users can select their preferred heat level.

Simple operation: Suitable for traditional portable vaporizer sessions.

How Does the XMAX V4 Pro Compare?

The XMAX V4 Pro focuses on convection heating and offers both session and on-demand operation.

This is particularly useful for customers who want to take a few draws without committing to a longer heating session.

Adjustable Airflow Control

One of the Alternate's most distinctive features was its manual airflow adjustment system.

A small green control on the device allows users to change the amount of air entering the heating system.

Benefits of Adjustable Airflow

Personalised draw resistance: Choose a tighter or more open draw.

Vapour control: Experiment with different airflow settings.

Inhalation comfort: Adjust the draw to suit your preference.

Flexible sessions: Combine airflow settings with different temperatures.

The device also incorporates reverse-flow protection as part of its airflow design.

Why Was This Feature Important?

Adjustable airflow was relatively unusual among affordable portable vaporizers when the Alternate was introduced.

It gave customers additional control without requiring complex settings or accessories.

Precise Temperature Control

The Vivant Alternate features an OLED display and adjustable temperature settings.

The manufacturer's user manual specifies a maximum temperature of 220°C (428°F).

Suggested Dry Herb Temperatures

Vivant recommends approximately 180°C (356°F) as a useful starting point.

Why Is Precise Temperature Control Useful?

Different temperatures can noticeably change flavour, vapour density and the overall session.

Unlike basic vaporizers with only three or four presets, the Alternate allows users to select a specific temperature.

OLED Display

The screen provides information about the selected temperature and remaining battery level.

Up and down buttons allow straightforward adjustment.

The device also uses coloured indicator lights to communicate its heating status.

Removable 18650 Battery

The Vivant Alternate uses a removable rechargeable 18650 lithium-ion battery.

This was one of its most appealing features.

Benefits of a Replaceable Battery

Longer practical lifespan: Replace a worn battery rather than discarding the device.

Extended portability: Carry a suitable spare battery.

Less downtime: Swap batteries between sessions.

Charging flexibility: Recharge through the device or a suitable external charger.

Important Battery Information

The Alternate requires a suitable high-discharge 18650 battery.

Vivant specifies a 30A-rated battery for the device.

Battery inclusion varied by package and retailer. The manufacturer's current product listing specifically states that the battery is not included.

Only use batteries meeting the manufacturer's requirements, and never carry loose lithium-ion batteries without a protective case.

Charging

The Alternate supports Micro-USB charging.

The USB connection can also be used for supported firmware updates.

Why We Recommend the V4 Pro

The XMAX V4 Pro retains the convenience of a removable battery while introducing modern USB-C charging.

Dry Herb and Concentrate Compatibility

The Vivant Alternate was designed primarily for dry herbs but also included a stainless steel concentrate pad.

This allowed customers to use suitable solid or semi-solid concentrates.

Dry Herb Use

For dry herbs, material is loaded directly into the heating chamber.

A medium grind and relatively loose packing help maintain airflow.

Concentrate Use

The included stainless steel pad provides a suitable surface for compatible concentrate materials.

Customers should follow the original Vivant instructions and avoid overloading the pad.

What About E-Liquids?

The Alternate is not designed for conventional nicotine e-liquids or refillable 510 cartridges.

Which Modern Vaporizer Should You Choose?

For dry herbs, we recommend the XMAX V4 Pro.

For customers who primarily use wax concentrates, a dedicated concentrate device such as the Yocan Orbit is more appropriate.

Compact Portable Design

The Vivant Alternate features a compact body with a removable top cap and integrated mouthpiece.

Its appearance is reminiscent of other portable vaporizers from the same generation, particularly the Crafty.

Design Highlights

Ergonomic body: Comfortable handheld construction.

Removable top cap: Provides access to the heating chamber.

Adjustable airflow: External control for draw resistance.

OLED display: Temperature and battery information.

Replaceable battery: Accessible battery compartment.

USB connection: Charging and firmware support.

Modular Grinder Accessory

Vivant also produced a modular four-piece grinder designed to attach to the Alternate.

This accessory included magnetic components and a small herb storage compartment.

It was sold as an accessory rather than being a guaranteed part of every vaporizer package.

How to Use the Vivant Alternate

Existing owners can continue using the Alternate according to the original manufacturer instructions.

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Install a compatible 18650 battery, observing the correct polarity.
2. Remove the top cap.
3. Grind your dry herbs to a medium consistency.
4. Load the chamber without packing too tightly.
5. Reattach the top cap securely.
6. Switch on the device using the power button.
7. Adjust the temperature using the up and down controls.
8. Allow the device to reach the selected temperature.
9. Adjust the airflow control to your preference.
10. Inhale slowly and steadily through the mouthpiece.
11. Switch off the device after use.
12. Allow the chamber to cool before emptying and cleaning.

Tips for Better Performance

Avoid overpacking: Heated air needs to pass through the material.

Begin around 180°C: A useful starting temperature recommended by Vivant.

Adjust the airflow: Experiment with different draw resistance settings.

Clean the screens: Restricted airflow can affect performance.

Maintain the top cap: Inspect seals and the mouthpiece regularly.

DopeVapes Expert Verdict

The Vivant Alternate was an ambitious portable vaporizer that offered impressive features for its price.

Its convection-focused hybrid heating, adjustable airflow and precise temperature control made it a compelling alternative to more expensive devices.

We particularly appreciated the removable 18650 battery.

At a time when many affordable portable vaporizers used permanently integrated batteries, the Alternate offered customers greater flexibility and longer-term practicality.

The adjustable airflow system was another useful feature, allowing customers to personalise their inhalation experience.

However, the Alternate also had limitations.

Its plastic top cap and cooling assembly required careful maintenance, its Micro-USB charging is dated by modern standards and replacement parts can be difficult to obtain.

The device has now been discontinued, making it less attractive for new customers.

Our recommendation is the XMAX V4 Pro.

The V4 Pro offers a more modern approach to portable dry herb vaporization, with convection-focused heating, precise temperature control, a removable battery and both session and on-demand operation.

These features make it an excellent choice for customers who want the flexibility and performance that made the Vivant Alternate popular.

Our verdict: The Vivant Alternate was an innovative, affordable hybrid vaporizer, but it has now been discontinued. Choose the XMAX V4 Pro for a modern, versatile dry herb experience with improved charging and flexible heating modes.
